When the Kensington Action Plan was adopted in 2005, the suburb was under the joint administration of the cities of Melbourne and Moonee Valley.
The Action Plan, developed in collaboration with the Kensington community and other stakeholders, resulted in significant improvement to the delivery of services to the residents of Kensington.
In 2008, Kensington came fully under the administration of the City of Melbourne. An audit of the area was undertaken and the Kensington Action Plan was incorporated into the City of Melbourne's own planning framework. Issues relating to Kensington's service delivery and other municipal matters are now part of the municipality's standard reporting.
